Looking for a New Fantasy Binge? Check Out These Series

Fans of the fantasy genre know that world-building, time-hopping and regime overthrowing takes time so are usually lucky enough to have their favorite stories play out not just over the course of a book but over the course of a series. While this means sometimes dealing with a nail-biting cliffhanger at the end of a book or what can feel like a painfully long wait for the next installment, it also means staying with your favorite characters, places and plots for four, five or ten books.

But the real jackpot is finding a new-to-you series that already has several volumes out there and readily available, or has even been released in its entirety so you can indulge in a binge-read of magical proportions.

Take a look at these five series, featuring more than 35 volumes of epic fantasy adventures. From urban fantasy to dystopian, speculative and paranormal fiction, your next binge-read starts right here.

The Chronicles of Elantra by Michelle Sagara

Fifteen(!) volumes in this series follow the adventures of Private Kaylin Neya, a young woman who serves the Hawks in the towering Halls of Law. She’s Elantra’s version of a police officer, a mortal in a city ruled by Dragons.

The Broken Earth by N.K. Jemisin

Resources are scarce and the sun no longer shines in the dark night of this three-volume, Hugo-Award-winning series. A war of nations is brewing, but Essun will do whatever it takes to save her daughter, even as the world is falling apart around them.

The Healer Series by Maria V. Snyder

Three books in this series feature Avry of Kazan, who can heal the injured and dying through touch, assuming their wounds and diseases into herself. But rather than being honoured for her skills, she is hunted. Healers like Avry are accused of spreading the plague that has decimated the Territories, leaving the survivors in a state of chaos.

Alpha & Omega by Patricia Briggs

These five books inhabit the same world as the popular Mercy Thompson series, but in these volumes, Anna never knew werewolves existed until the night she survived a violent attack—and became one herself. But Anna is that rarest kind of werewolf: an Omega. And one of the most powerful werewolves in the country is about to recognize her value as a pack member—and as his mate.

Sandman Slim by Richard Kadrey

With a new volume arriving in August 2018, this will become a ten-strong fantasy/supernatural/occult/noir collection of novels. Each book is narrated by James “Sandman Slim” Stark, a half-human, half-angel magician who returns from Hell to exact revenge on the people who sent him there.
